#1: Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling

The first in our series of recommended reads is from Mrs Marsh, who teaches in year 5.

What the book is about:

Harry is in his fourth year at Hogwarts school for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Together with his friends Ron and Hermione, he overcomes the troubles of school life, friendships and not to mention trying to avoid being killed by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Unbeknownst to Harry, his name has been placed into the Triwizard Cup, which means he has to tackle things a 4th year is not trained to, find out who is out to get him and still maintain his friendships.

Why I love this book:

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and this book felt like a departure from the previous three. The book focuses much more on his relationships with Ron, and Hermione and how Harry develops as a character. The Tri-Wizard Tournament provides an engaging backdrop to help highlight the character’s strengths and weaknesses.

Who else might enjoy this book?

If you like reading books from the Harry Potter series, this would be perfect for you. If, however, you have not read the books, this would be perfect if you enjoy reading fantasy books. Harry Potter transports you to another world full of magical creatures, magic spells and regular school life!
